The Failure of Electric Fiats in Australia: The Brand Sells Fewer Cars Than Lamborghini
The Italian automotive brand Fiat is facing a serious challenge in the Australian market. According to information from Stellantis Australia, deliveries of the electric Fiat 500e models and its sporty Abarth 500e version will likely be discontinued after demand proved to be critically low.
The main problem that turned these urban icons into unprofitable products is the pricing policy. Upon its debut in 2023, the Fiat 500e started at a price of 52,500 Australian dollars, while the sporty Abarth 500e version reached over 60,000 dollars for limited editions. These amounts placed the small electric vehicles in direct competition with larger SUV models and more diverse electric cars, which proved to be a flawed strategy.
Even drastic price reductions, which in some cases reached 20,000 dollars, failed to stimulate buyers. The statistics are telling: in the first half of 2026, Fiat sales fell by about 30%, with only 13 cars from the 500 family realized in June. In comparison, the luxury brand Lamborghini managed to deliver 18 cars during the same month, despite its much higher price segment.
Currently, Fiat's presence in Australia is focused primarily on the Scudo and Ducato light commercial models. Although the dealer network remains active and service support for current owners will be guaranteed, the future of the brand's passenger models in the region remains uncertain.
