Bulgaria is reporting a significant increase in the inflow of foreign capital. As of the end of May this year, foreign direct investment in the country amounts to 2.28 billion euros, according to preliminary data from the Bulgarian National Bank.

A comparison with the previous period shows sharp positive dynamics. The net flow of direct investment is 1.74 billion euros higher compared to the same period last year, when the total amount was only 535.3 million euros. This means that investment activity is more than four times higher compared to last year.

From the perspective of scale relative to the national economy, foreign investments now represent 1.8% of Bulgaria's projected gross domestic product (GDP), whereas during the same period last year, this percentage was only 0.5%.

Analyzing the monthly dynamics, during May itself, the net investment flow reached 254 million euros, which is almost identical to the result from May last year (258.9 million euros). Interestingly, in the real estate sector, a slight negative net flow of 2.4 million euros was observed for the month, which is an improvement in the situation compared to the overall negative balance of 16.6 million euros for the January-May period.
