Revolution at BMW: Fifth Generation X5 Unveiled with 'Neue Klasse' Design and First Fully Electric Version

BMW has officially unveiled the fifth generation of its flagship X5 model, marking a radical shift in the brand's design and technological philosophy. Instead of a smooth evolution, the new version bets on the 'Neue Klasse' concept, inspired by the brand's classic models from the 60s.

Design and Innovation: The Future is Here

The visual identity of the new X5 is fundamentally different. Designers have opted for a narrower grille and unique X-shaped LED headlights that create a specific optical effect. One of the most notable changes is in the door handles – they are completely hidden and extend automatically only when the vehicle is unlocked.

The interior is a true technological treasure. The center of the cabin is dominated by the panoramic iDrive system, running on the new X operating system. A key innovation is 'Panoramic Vision' – a full-format projection across the entire windshield, which transforms how the driver interacts with information.

Triple Powertrain Diversity

The new X5 offers three main energy trajectories to meet the needs of the global market:

• Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV): For the first time, the iX5 60 xDrive model appears. Thanks to sixth-generation electric systems and cylindrical battery cells, it offers a range of up to 845 km on a single charge and supports an 800-volt architecture for ultra-fast charging.
• Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV): The X5 50e xDrive model combines a 3.0-liter engine with an electric motor, providing 490 hp and an electric range of up to 102 km (WLTP).
• Diesel Version: For fans of traditional engines, the X5 40d xDrive is available, which is a mild hybrid with 313 hp.

Intelligent Assistant and Personalization

The vehicle becomes even more intelligent with the implementation of advanced language technology based on Amazon Alexa+, allowing for more natural conversation with the machine. Additionally, the Digital Key Plus system allows users to use smartphones or smartwatches as keys.

Production of the new model will begin at the BMW plant in Spartanburg, USA, as early as August this year, with the first customers in South Africa receiving it in early 2027.
