Restoration of four departments in the Silistra hospital: Ministry of Health prioritizes patients
The management of MBAL "Silistra" has officially committed to restoring the activities of four key departments in the shortest possible time. These are the pediatric department, the neurological diseases department, infectious diseases, and rheumatology, the Ministry of Health reported.
The topic was discussed during a meeting led by Minister of Health Katya Ivkova, which included representatives from the hospital, the Ministry of Health, and the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF). The reason for the suspension of activities in these units is escalated tension arising from internal management disputes between members of the medical institution's Board of Directors.
The Ministry of Health expressed its categorical position that administrative conflicts must not become hostages to medical teams and, most importantly, to patients. "Patients and medical specialists cannot be hostages to management disagreements. From the hospital management, we expect not mutual accusations, but immediate actions and visible results," emphasized Minister Ivkova, adding that children's health is an unconditional priority.
The hospital's Executive Director, Dr. Vasil Slavov, assured that the financial status of MBAL-Silistra is stable. According to him, the only problem hindering normal operations is the staffing consequence of the current tension—resignation letters submitted by specialists.
Following the meeting, the hospital management took responsibility for undertaking organizational and staffing measures to restore the departments. At the same time, members of the Board of Directors are expected to continue their dialogue to control the situation and restore a normal working environment. The Ministry of Health stated that it will monitor the situation within its powers.
