President Yotova: The deployment of American tanker aircraft at Bezmer does not involve us in conflicts in Iran

President Iliana Yotova commented on the US request for the deployment of American tanker aircraft at Bezmer airbase. During an inspection of Graf Ignatievo airbase, where preparations for the reception of the new F-16s are underway, the head of state emphasized that the procedure for implementing such requests is strictly regulated.

According to the president, the case must mandatory be discussed and decided by the National Assembly. She made a comparison with previous similar cases, noting that at that time, the institutions did not notify her in a timely manner about the presence of such equipment at the Sofia airport. In the current case, however, Yotova emphasized that she was informed in advance and the government will bring the matter to parliament.

"Such deployment of tanker aircraft does not make us part of the military actions in Iran," the president stated. She expressed hope for a truce in the region and explained that, as far as she is informed, the aircraft will not carry out any military actions in Bulgarian airspace.

In addition to the question of the American equipment, Iliana Yotova emphasized the critical need for the modernization of the Bulgarian army. She insisted on providing the necessary funds and equipment, emphasizing that in the context of regional conflicts, the country's security directly depends on the capacity of the military elite and the availability of modern aircraft.
