Moody’s upgrades Municipal Bank's outlook to "positive"
International credit agency Moody’s Ratings has changed the outlook for Municipal Bank AD's long-term deposit rating from "stable" to "positive". With this move, the agency simultaneously affirmed the bank's long-term and short-term deposit ratings at the Ba2 level, as well as the long-term counterparty risk rating at Ba1.
The outlook upgrade is the result of a series of credit rating improvements throughout 2024 and 2025. According to Moody’s analysis, the positive change is due to Municipal Bank's increased profitability and strengthened internal capacity for capital generation. The agency also notes solid liquidity indicators, high return on assets, as well as the benefits for the bank from Bulgaria's accession to the Eurozone.
The bank's financial results show steady growth: over the last 12 months, the deposit base (including individuals and companies) increased by 17%, while profit after tax jumped by 22%. The quality of the credit portfolio remains high, with the non-performing loan ratio being below 0.8% as of the end of June 2026.
This recognition from the international agency comes at a time when Municipal Bank is celebrating its 30th anniversary, focusing on digitalization and expanding its market presence through modern financial services for individuals, businesses, and municipal structures.
