Flood Damage Assessment: 18 Villages in Three Regions to be Investigated

Following the recent intense rainfall and flooding, the Ministry of Agriculture, through the "Zemedelie" Directorate, has announced the dispatch of expert commissions to assess damage to agricultural crops. The inspections will cover 18 settlements in three regions where significant losses of fruits and crops have been identified.

Where are the agricultural areas affected?

According to preliminary data, the damage is distributed as follows:

• Stara Zagora Region: villages of Kazanka, Sladuk, Hrishteni, Lozen, Borilovo, Pustrovo, and Pryaporetz.
• Burgas Region: villages of Muglen and Peshtshera (Aytos municipality), as well as Chernitsa, Klimash, and Kosten (Sonoglular municipality).
• Kardzhali Region: villages of Platice, Sofitsi, Kupcite, and Plaziche.
• Varna Region: flooding was also registered in the village of Pchelnik, Dolni Chiflik municipality.

What should farmers do?

To launch the official investigation, affected farmers must submit an application to the relevant municipal agricultural service. It is important to note that the deadline for submitting documents is up to 10 working days from the moment the adverse weather event occurred.

The expert commissions will prepare protocols documenting the percentage of lost crops and the specific causes of the damage, with heavy rain and flooding being identified as the primary factors.

Additional damage to territorial protection

Parallel to the agricultural damage, the Executive Agency "Grain Protection" reported the destruction of over 600 anti-hail rockets due to strong winds and storms. A total of 18 hail protection cells were affected in the regions of Plovdiv, Stara Zagora, Sliven, and Haskovo, which further impacts the protection of agricultural territories in these regions.
