Bulgaria establishes itself as an important video game development hub in the region

The video game development industry is undergoing a significant transformation in Bulgaria, turning into one of the most dynamic niches in the local IT sector. The combination of software engineering, graphic design, artificial intelligence, and creative thinking is creating a new ecosystem for professional development.

According to data from an AIBEST report for 2025, the BPO, ITO, and R&D sectors in Bulgaria serve over 105,000 jobs through 833 companies. This stable foundation allows specialized teams for creating digital products to unleash their potential. Currently, there are over 50 studios and teams operating in the country, working on projects for both the local and international markets.

The presence of established international names such as Ubisoft Sofia, Gameloft, and Creative Assembly/SEGA in the capital is a direct indicator of the maturity of the Bulgarian workforce. Developing modern titles requires complex technological solutions, involving work with engines like Unreal Engine and Unity, as well as the integration of artificial intelligence to improve gameplay and automate tasks.

Global trends also support this growth. Newzoo forecasts show that mobile gaming will generate over $121 billion in revenue in 2026, and the AI market in gaming is expected to reach $51.26 billion by 2033. These figures highlight the need for specialists who master not only programming but also data analysis, 3D animation, and project management.

For future talent in the sector, success depends on the combination of technical skills (C++, C#, Python, mathematics) and "soft" skills such as communication and teamwork. With the development of cloud technologies and AI, the profession in game development continues to expand, offering new opportunities for innovation and career growth in Bulgaria.
