Accusations of Real Estate Schemes: Minister Demerzhiev's Family Owns Assets Worth Over 16 Million BGN

The family of Minister of Interior Ivan Demerzhiev is linked to large-scale real estate and commercial deals worth over 16 million leva. These allegations were made by the Deputy Chairman of the DPS parliamentary group, Hamid Hamid, during a briefing in the National Assembly.

According to the deputy, the information is supported by data from the Property and Commercial Registers. Hamid claims that individuals and companies associated with the Demerzhiev family own a total of 411 real estate properties. One of the cited schemes involves the purchase of agricultural lands, including in the prestigious area near Plovdiv, where the minister became a partner in a company in 2019.

"The schemes applied by Demerzhiev and his partners have enriched them by over 5 million leva," Hamid stated, adding that fictitious transactions are used for tax evasion and to conceal the real owners.

During the speech, a contradiction in asset declarations was also mentioned – in 2020, Demerzhiev declared the purchase of a "Porsche" car for the symbolic sum of 1,795 leva to the Anti-Corruption Commission (KPKONPI). The deputy added that he received a threat from the minister that "it will get very interesting," and suggested that Demerzhiev's actions look like an attempt to build a political image through PR campaigns.

All collected evidence and information will be officially submitted to the Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Bulgaria for investigation.
