Greece is preparing stricter control over tourist behavior along the coast this year. The new rules provide for serious sanctions aimed at protecting the environment and the peace of visitors, but they can be extremely heavy for those who do not comply.

Environmental violations and huge fines

The heaviest sanctions are aimed at pollution. If authorities determine that pollution of the beach or seawater has occurred, fines can reach an impressive 58,000 euros. This shows that the focus of the Greek institutions is on protecting the ecosystem.

Camping and parking: Risks for camper owners

Pitching tents, campers, or caravans outside of licensed campsites is strictly prohibited. For these violations, fines between 300 and 3,000 euros are provided. It is important to note that even parking in a public parking lot for the purpose of staying overnight in a camper can be considered a violation according to local regulations.

Noise, sports, and water activities

The peace of beachgoers is also protected by law. Here are the main restrictions:

New method of control: Drones

Tourists should be aware that control is no longer only through beach patrols. Greek authorities are using drones to monitor for violations from the air, making it easier to detect rule-breakers on a larger scale.

Regarding pets, they are allowed to visit the beach only on unorganized and wilder parts of the coastline.
