Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić stated that presidential elections in the country could take place as early as December, or during January and early February, depending on the date of the early parliamentary elections. This information was shared by him, as quoted by the Tanjug agency.
Possible scenarios for the election calendar
According to Vučić, the election schedule depends directly on when the parliamentary voting is held. If the parliamentary elections are held in November, the presidential ones could take place in January or early February 2027. Should the parliamentary vote occur in October, the presidential elections could be held in late December.
Earlier this month, the president indicated that parliamentary elections in Serbia could be held within the next 80 to 120 days. He emphasized that the two types of elections will be held on separate dates, with the parliamentary ones most likely occurring first.
Political context and future roles
At the end of June, Aleksandar Vučić, who has held the presidency since 2017, announced that he would resign, but did not specify a concrete date for this action. Since he is not eligible for a new presidential mandate, Vučić stated that he plans to return to the position of Prime Minister after the parliamentary elections.

Calls for early voting in the country intensified following the mass protests triggered by the tragedy in Novi Sad on April 1, 2024, when the collapse of a concrete canopy at a railway station claimed 16 lives. Regular presidential and parliamentary elections in Serbia are scheduled to be held in May and December 2027, respectively.
