The start for Bulgarian representatives in European club tournaments was not easy. After the first four matches of the second qualifying round, the statistics show a worrying result: only one goal scored for all Bulgarian teams.
Levski is the only one that managed to achieve a victory, defeating Romanian Universitatea Craiova by a minimum of 1:0. This result gives the 'Blues' a serious advantage before the trip to Romania, as the mathematical chances for the Bulgarian club to advance have increased significantly – from the predicted 46% to 64%.
In the other matchups, the results were more neutral or disappointing. In the Europa League, CSKA achieved a scoreless draw against Azerbaijani Qarabag, while in the Conference League, CSKA 1948 had a similar away result against Slovakian Spartak Trnava.
The biggest disappointment so far is Ludogorets, who lost 0:2 to Israeli Maccabi Tel Aviv in the Conference League. A week of rematches lies ahead, which will determine whether Bulgarian football will continue to be represented worthily on the European stage or will face a premature end to its participation.
