Deserved recognition for the volleyball legend
On September 5, a benefit will be held for one of the most significant figures in Bulgarian volleyball – Teodor Salparov. The event will bring together legends of national and world volleyball, his teammates, and will be broadcast on bTV.
Salparov, known among fans as "Favorite 13," has a rich international career. He is a holder of bronze medals from the World Championship, European Championship, and the World Cup. In 2012, at the London Olympic Games, he was selected as the best defender of the tournament. On the club scene, Salparov achieved success with the Russian giant "Zenit Kazan," winning the Champions League and the Club World Championship, and later returned to Bulgaria, where he became a champion with "Neftochimik" and finished his career with the "Heber" team.
Continuity and international guests
In the studio of "120 Minutes," Salparov shared that the benefit is not a farewell, but an attempt to demonstrate continuity in Bulgarian volleyball. He emphasized that he has gone through four generations of national players and has invited over 35 teammates from different periods of his career – from 2003 to 2023.
Among the special guests of the event will be his idol – two-time Olympic champion and seven-time World League winner Sergio Santos. Salparov shared that the Brazilian's presence means a lot to him following their personal correspondence.
Emotions and a look toward the future
"I am glad that the fans remember me this way. That is how I am in life too – very emotional. Not everyone can play under such pressure. I am happy that people appreciated not only the volleyball player, but also the person," Salparov stated.

Although he shared that it hurts him regarding the eight eighth-place finishes of the national team, he emphasized that the world has always spoken of Bulgaria because of volleyball. Salparov concluded with an optimistic look toward the country, expressing hope for political stability that will allow Bulgaria to unleash its potential.
