Critical situation in the Athens area

Hundreds of firefighters and dozens of aerial vehicles continue for the fourth consecutive day the fight against a massive forest fire in the northwestern part of Athens. The fire is spreading in the areas of Psata, Kandylio, and Megara, threatening residential buildings, settlements, and industrial zones.

According to official data, changes in wind direction are complicating rescue efforts, as new hotspots are constantly being created. Due to the threat to settlements, evacuations of residents have been carried out in the region.

Infrastructure crisis on the island of Kefalonia

On the island of Kefalonia, the fire has already been contained, but the consequences for the infrastructure remain serious. Due to significant damage to the power transmission network, there is a power outage in the tourist area of Skala. Although four generators have been installed, their capacity is not sufficient to fully power the area.

The lack of electricity has caused a chain reaction, affecting the water supply as well. Due to the inability of pumping stations to function normally, water shortages are already being observed in several areas of the island.
