The Philosophy of Loss and Gain
Hristo Dimitrov, choreographer, producer, and creator of the National Folklore Ensemble "Bulgare," shares the concept that lies at the heart of his book "Theory of Alternative Loss." According to him, life is subject to a principle similar to Newton's third law: for every gain, there is a corresponding alternative loss of equal force in another sphere.
"If you win one thing in one area of your life, you reciprocally lose something else in another area. For example, you might win money but lose your health, or win an education and lose your family," Dimitrov explains. He emphasizes that the book is not a purely philosophical exercise, but the result of his personal experience and life lessons.
Biography and Professional Path
Hristo Dimitrov was born on October 7, 1969, in Varna. He completed his secondary education in Shumen, and after completing his military service, he turned his hobby into a profession. His creative path began at the age of ten, when he started performing folk dances in amateur groups. In 1990, he became a regular student at the Academy of Music, Dance, and Fine Arts in Plovdiv, specializing in "Choreographic Direction."
In 2002, together with his sister Elena Anderson, he laid the foundations of the "Bulgare" ensemble. Dimitrov is also the founder of the Folklore Costume Festival in Zheravna, president of the Association of Choreographers in Bulgaria, creator of BG+ television, and president of the "Keepers of Bulgarianness" association. For his merits, he is a recipient of the "St. St. Cyril and Methodius" Order – first degree, the Honorary Sign of the President, and is an honorary citizen of Kotel and Shumen.
From Idea to Book
The idea for his book came suddenly – he claims the concept appeared in his consciousness for seconds while he was falling asleep. The original text consisted of exactly 17 pages. After the text sat for five years, publisher Nikolay Tonchev from Niton Publishing encouraged him to turn it into a book. The writing process was completed during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Personal Life and Values
In the interview, the creator of "Bulgare" also speaks about his personal life. He is married to Tsvetlina Stefanova, whom he met by chance through Facebook – she sent him a friend request after becoming his 5,000th friend on the network. Dimitrov describes the birth of his daughter, Hristiyana, as his greatest unplanned happiness.
Dimitrov expresses the opinion that a person should not try to control every step of their destiny, but rather follow the natural flow of events. Regarding spiritual themes, he makes a distinction between faith and religion: "Faith unites. Religion sometimes divides," he shares.

For Dimitrov, success is not just a goal, but a challenge that carries weight. He believes that talent is not a privilege, but an obligation, adding: "Today I am convinced that a talented person has no choice. The gift chooses them. And then it leads them throughout their whole life and holds them responsible."
