The Haskovo District Court accepted the request to change the measure for 56-year-old Yanko Todorov, an accused in an attempted murder case. Instead of detention, a monetary bail of 10,000 euros has been imposed on the defendant.
According to the prosecution, the incident occurred on January 28, 2025, near Svilengrad. At that time, businessman Dimitar Nikolov stopped his car to pick up Todorov as a passenger. During the conversation between the two, the resident of Dimitrovgrad pointed an illegal pistol at the driver. The entrepreneur managed to block the attacker's hand, who fired but failed to hit him. After the incident, Todorov fled but was later caught by Ministry of Interior employees.
The court's decision states that following an investigative experiment conducted on July 21, serious doubt arose regarding the validity of the assumption that Todorov committed this specific crime. In addition to the attempted murder charge, he is also accused of possession of a firearm without a permit.
