Institutional Support for the Viticulture and Winemaking Sector

The Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Agriculture and Food have launched a national partnership with representatives of the viticulture and winemaking sector. The goal of the initiative is to establish Bulgarian wine as a national symbol and to stimulate the development of wine tourism in the country.

The meeting, initiated by the Minister of Tourism Dr. Ilin Dimitrov, was attended by the Minister of Agriculture and Food Plamen Abrovski, the Chairman of the Parliamentary Commission on Agriculture, Food, and Forestry Yavor Gechev, representatives of the National Association of Bulgarian Viticulturists, and industry organizations.

Strategic Goals and Concrete Steps

According to the Minister of Tourism Dr. Ilin Dimitrov, the initiative requires the preparation of a clear roadmap and a specific action plan to ensure Bulgarian wine receives its deserved place. For his part, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Plamen Abrovski emphasized that authentic Bulgarian varieties are a key calling card for the country, and the development of wine tourism can serve as a stimulus for the economy of rural areas and local communities.

The Chairman of the Parliamentary Commission, Yavor Gechev, noted the existence of a market problem, where imported wines prevail in many Bulgarian establishments and tourist complexes. He promised support for the necessary legislative changes to allow the industry to develop more actively.
